The history of "Multiprofile Hospital for Active Treatment Varna" EOOD is inextricably linked to the development of railway transport and transport medicine in Bulgaria.

The medical institution traces its origins back to 1918, when the "Regional Medical Service" was established with the primary mission of providing medical care to railway workers.

Historical records link the creation of the service to Tsar Boris III, under whose reign transport medicine and specialized healthcare for railway employees continued to develop.

Over the following decades, the medical service expanded and gradually established itself as an important medical facility for Varna and Northeastern Bulgaria.

The hospital is located at 1 Slaveykov Square, right next to the Varna Central Railway Station—a location that to this day serves as a reminder of its historical connection to the Bulgarian railways and the country's transport system.

From Transport Hospital to MHAT "Varna" EOOD

For decades, the medical facility developed as the Transport Hospital – Varna, providing diagnostics, treatment, prevention, and specialized medical expertise for employees across various transport sectors.

Over the years, the structure and name of the medical institution underwent changes, but its core mission remained unchanged: protecting people's health and delivering professional medical care.

A new chapter in the hospital's history began in 2008.

By Decree No. 185 of July 28, 2008, of the Council of Ministers (published in the State Gazette, issue 68 of 2008), hospital care activities in the city of Varna were separated from the "Tsar Boris III" National Multiprofile Transport Hospital – Sofia and established as an independent single-member limited liability company with state capital participation—"Multiprofile Hospital for Active Treatment Varna" EOOD.

The reorganization took effect on August 4, 2008.

The company's capital is entirely state-owned, with the rights of the state as sole owner exercised by the Minister of Transport and Communications.

A History That Continues

More than a century after the establishment of the transport medical service in Varna, MHAT "Varna" EOOD continues to preserve the traditions of Transport Hospital – Varna while evolving into a modern medical facility.

Today, the hospital is open to all patients, regardless of whether they are affiliated with the transport sector, while retaining its specialized functions in transport medicine and medical expertise.

Our goal is to preserve the historical heritage of the institution and build upon it by modernizing our facilities, developing medical services, implementing state-of-the-art equipment, and attracting highly qualified medical specialists.
